BARCO Announces First Generation of Commercially
Available Digital Cinema Projectors
BARCO, the world leader in display technology, announced the 'D-CineStar' Digital Cinema
projector to be available starting September of this year. BARCO, which was chosen by Texas
Instruments as one of only three worldwide licensees for the DLP Cinema™ chip technology
earlier this year, applied its expertise in electronics, optics and mechanics to develop this
projector together with Kinoton GmbH, renowned for the high quality of its lamp houses,
consoles and 35mm film projectors.
The BARCO D-CineStar, with the aid
of a 3000 watt Xenon lamp, delivers a
12 foot Lambert brightness on all but
the very largest of film screens,
combined with a film like contrast ratio
of 1000:1. and a 40% larger color space
than HDTV. The dedicated fully digital
24 frames per second signal input
guarantees natural film like motion. The
end result on the screen is bright, stable,
uniform images on the screen without
jump, weave, flicker or ghosting.
To date more than 750,000 people are
estimated to have witnessed Digital
Cinema trials in well over 5,000
{gLP showings in any of the more than 24
