COVER PHOTO – 50 YEARS A HOME SHOWMAN!

A little bit of personal indulgence this time – on the cover is an example of my first movie projector
(not my original unit – unfortunately!) - the Kodak Eight-46.

As a young lad of eleven, way back in 1955, being the owner of a Roma stripfilm projector and a
Dux Kino ‘toy’ projector, I was keen to move into the world of ‘real’ movies.

I had been eyeing off a second hand Kodascope Eight-46 in the window of the local Peter Fox
camera store for some time. With my parent’s permission, I finally managed put a deposit on it and
started the difficult task of paying it off. With only about half of the balance paid, a very generous
‘Santa’ paid the balance and I had it home for Christmas 1955.

Geelong was well-served by film libraries in those days; Peter Fox, Camera House and Kodak all
had local stores and offered an 8mm library. Of course the Kodak library offered the widest range of
titles. I well remember the pleasure of watching those films – over and over - (ignoring their rules of
“for one screening only”) each weekend.

I would like to again thank ERIC SCOTT for the two excellent articles he has contributed for this
edition.
