Two thousand years ago: A recreation of life in Palestine in the time of Christ (1938). Religious Films
Ltd., produced at Gainsborough Studios by G.B. Instructional, U.K. approx. 800ft, b/w, variable density
soundtrack. 3 episodes for sale (of 5 episodes produced). — #1 The synagoge and passover. Shows a
service in a synagogue, including the lesson, sermon, discussion, the ark, singing of Psalms; explains clearly
and sympathetically the religious life in Palestine in the time of Christ (22 mins). — #2 The school. School
boys are shown going to the synagogue, where they sit on the floor; guided by the Kehazzan, they recite
aloud the Shema, memorize and learn to read aloud from the Torah (16 mins). — #3 The day’s work. The
village carpenter and his son lead their loaded donkey through the village to the shop where they make
simple wooden implements to sell; other occupations are shown: pottery making, weaving, and he building of
a new house; after work the carpenter and his son return home for the evening meal, the lamp is lighted and
the father reads aloud from a scroll of scripture (21 mins). ................................................................. $10 each
