The Pathescope IMP and KID 9.5mm projectors
In 1930, the English Pathescope company started local assembly of French made Pathe
projectors and cameras.
One of their first efforts was the KID hand turned projector, it was marketed as a cheaper
alternative to the popular BABY 9.5mm projector.
The KID was a pretty awful machine - not much more that a toy. It was of pressed steel
construction, hand turned, accepted 30ft enclosed film cassettes only, had no feed or
take up sprockets and worst of all, had a fully enclosed film path, meaning film could not
be unloaded or film path corrected during projection. Cleaning of the film path and gate
was not possible.
To cope with the larger 300ft reels of film that were introduced in the late 1920s, extension
arms with take up drive were available as optional extras.
