A Superman Cartoon Mystery
Calling all cartoon specialists. A DVD of
cartoons from the mid-30s to the early 40s
includes a Superman cartoon registered as
1941, but a later overlay reads ‘released
1942.’
The story aside, the most interesting as-
pect of this cartoon is the Paramount logo
where, beneath the mountain, are the
words ‘Stereo optical process and appara-
tus patented’.
Does this mean that the cartoon was released as a 3-D novelty? Or was it
Paramount’s answer to the Disney multi-plane camera which produced better
depth-of-field in a standard format cartoon?
