LETTERS - More on the C&W Projector in the last edition
Hello Mike
I can add a little more information to the item about the Point Lonsdale Theatre fire, and the
Raycophone Portable projector on page 35 of the September 2019 edition.
The projectors installed at the Point Lonsdale Hall at the time of the fire were a pair of Kalee 7
projectors on Raycophone Panaphonic rotary stabilized soundheads, with carbon arcs. I under-
stand that Harry Davidson installed them. They suffered some damage as a result of the extreme
heat of the fire but were found mostly intact in the bio box the following day. The machines
passed to Eddy Mills, who ran the show at St Leonards Public Hall. Eddy stored them for some
time than passed them on to a collector in Western Victoria. The Kalee 7 heads still exist but the
rest of the plant was completely destroyed in the 2006 bush-fires.
So, it is quite possible that the Raycophone portable illustrated could have been used at Point
Lonsdale prior to the Kalees.
Best regards.
Phillip Grace.
