MEET THE COLLECTOR - Peter Woods
I joined the University of NSW
Regiment, Citizens’ Military Forces
(CMF, now the Army Reserve) in
1963 and was there until 1967.
I did the Army Cinematograph
Operator’s Licence course in 1963,
which made me the Regimental
Projectionist licensed to use a
Cinevox Prefect 16mm projector.
We had three of them in our cinema,
which utilised rear-projection.
I recall on one occasion, running
Carrington VC a three reel feature,
detailing a military court martial.
During the first reel, the take-up belt
broke so I spent the rest of the run-
time with my finger in the take-up
spool to keep movie running.
The historical things we remember!
GROUP 9.5 (UK) Ceases Operation Mike Trickett
It is sad to have to report the closure of Group 9.5 after 60 years of operation. The
Group was established to support the many 9.5mm enthusiasts in the UK and
elsewhere following the demise of Pathescope. The 9.5mm film gauge was very
popular in the UK, and the loss of Pathescope and the services they provided was
a big loss. At one time, Group 9.5 even arranged for 9.5mm camera film to be
produced and processed. The Group produced four editions of their magazine, 9.5,
each year. As a member for over 40 years and having attended four meetings over
that time, I personally will miss the magazine, which was always full of interesting
articles, including reviews of the many collectable releases issued by Pathescope
over the years.
The announcement in the current edition:
This is the final edition of our magazine, sad though it may be, many agree that we
have been functioning for more decades than was ever envisaged. Group 9.5 as we
are known be will now no longer exist as a membership society but our website, that
contains so much, is ongoing. Higher production, printing and postage costs,
coupled with decreasing subscribers, many did not renew last time, has made it all
the more less viable. Committee members etc. are still shown as theoretically they
remain active.
