‘STUNT LOVE’

A movie love story from the first days of Hollywood.

Helen Holmes was enticed from the New York stage to Los Angeles in
1913 by her friend Mabel Normand. After a film or two for Mack
Sennett, she acted with Kalem, met there J.P. McGowan. Soon he was
directing her in the pioneering railroad adventure series ‘The Hazards of
      Helen’.

In 1915 Helen married the big, dynamic Australian. Together, they
formed Signal Films to make railroad dramas. They did their own stunts,
and Helen became a popular legend. The South Australian country lad
went on to become a film industry veteran.

On Tuesday 30 August 2011, ABC1 will show the Holmes-
McGowan tribute film ‘Stunt Love’ in the
             10pm Artscape slot. McGowanSociety@dodo.com.au
