Friends With Like Interests

One of the side benefits of a hobby like film collecting are the friends we make along
the way, all from various walks of life and in different parts of the world.

Way back in 1984, I made a trip to the UK with my then 18 year old daughter Mandy.
A little prior to that I had been corresponding with a gentleman named Alan Lott in
the England. Much to my surprise, he asked us to say at his home while we were in his
area. Over the years, we became good friends and along the way managed to stay at
each other’s homes on other occasions.
During a recent trip to Europe, we did a side trip to England and managed to catch up
with some film friends. Unfortunately, Alan died some time back, but we did have a
day with Alan’s wife recalling our past times together and updating each other on our
family’s activities. The following day, we caught up with another film friend Ken Val-
entine, who welcomed us to his home.

Saturday 2 May was the Group 9.5 meeting in London ( Group 9.5 continues to
‘wave the flag’ of the 9.5 mm film gauge some 55 years after its supposed demise),
and again there were people that I had met in the past or corresponded with via email
who made us most welcome.
Just like here at home, there are so many wonderful people who are part of our hobby.
