Sony to discontinue Betamax cassettes

Sony have announced that they will
cease manufacturing Betamax video
tapes from March 2016.
The Betamax VCR format was re-
leased onto the market some 40
years ago. Sony have not made a
recorder using that format for over
13 years.
They have continued to manufacture
Beta tapes until now, supplying a
dwindling market for tapes, from
those persisting with the old tech-
nology.
