Oddities from the world of movies
Seven x 50 foot 8 mm films fetch over
$500 on eBay
This collection of movies was made by a father
and his son from Georgia. They appear to have
travelled the world and the American West. The
bulk of the collection is Kodachrome. All of
them are the short 3" 50' reels of film as proc-
essed without editing. Of particular note is a trip
to Germany in 1937, showing many swastika
banners in the street scenes. (Edited description)
- Rodney Bourke
Most of these high priced sales of home movies are purchased by Stock Footage Companies, who often
supply material to TV and documentary makers - at very high prices. Don’t get excited about your 8 mm
“baby on the lawn” films just yet! - Ed.
Drive-in Speakers Stolen
Be on the lookout for some clown from WA who has stolen almost all the remaining speakers
from the Koorda Drive-in. He is going to be looking to off load them somewhere. The old
speakers were still in use, as they were preferred by some patrons. The drive-in also uses an FM
transmitter which is received on the car radio..
The Koorda DI is now a community run cinema having gone digital and is doing quite well. They
had a request via their Facebook page from some clown up that way wanting to know if they
wished to sell their speakers and they said no, as they still used them. A week later most were
gone snipped off right on the speaker, with the leads dangling on the ground.
The police have been informed of the person’s Facebook identity and are investigating.
