Since the last edition of Reel Deals in June, seven new subscribers have been added
to the mailing list.

While I’m not saying this is a record, it is great news to know that there are new people
interested in our hobby.
Some of them may have attended the CATHS Cine Collectables Fair back in May,
when dozens of back editions of this little booklet were made available free as a
promotion, others have come via the RD web site, and also from the efforts of people
like Rodney Bourke, promoting film use in all of its forms.

We seem to have had a reduction in the number of people advertising in the last two
editions. I trust that this is only a “Winter time thing”. I know from personal experience
that it is just too damn cold to spend an afternoon in my shed sorting films - perhaps
the warmer months will increase the enthusiasm.
Again, in the last couple of months, phone calls from people wanting to dispose of
films and equipment. Interesting contrast between their approach. The first person
was of the belief that films / cameras / projectors must be worth a lot of money, as they
are no longer made, and quoted what similar items are listed for on eBay. I suggested
he check what the actually sell for, and wished him good luck.

Second person was just wanting to give the gear to a good home, rather than it go to
the tip. I suggested a couple of possibilities, including a free page ad in RD, she said
she would follow it up when time permits.

Next edition will be December - traditionally a great time to sell unwanted films and
equipment - now is the time to start a sort out.
