"BUTTERFLIES ARE FREE" Goldie Hawn. BUTTERFLIES ARE FREE is the delightful 1972 film adaptation of
the Leonard Gershe play about a young man who has been blind from birth (Edward Albert)who moves into
his own apartment and almost instantly falls in love with his kooky next door neighbor (Goldie Hawn), a
flighty free spirit who has trouble with anything resembling commitment, which he turns a blind eye to but
is picked up immediately by his clingy, over-protective mother (Eileen Heckart). This breezy comedy still
holds up pretty well for a film that's 49 years old. Colour is pink with yellow. $30.00
"HARRY AND TONTO" Academy Award Winner : Best Actor Art Carney - a quiet, quirky genius and this
film is a lasting testament to his talent. Watch for superb ensemble acting from Ellen Burstyn, Larry Hagman,
the inimitable Chief Dan George, Arthur Hunnicutt, and a host of great character actors from the 70's. The
cultural references of that period seem interesting and historical and not dated, probably because--like
everything else in this film--they are treated with respect. Watch it. Savour it. This is really something
special. Some colour fade. $50.00.
"THE 12 CHAIRS" Mel Brooks. This movie has a lot of comedy, but it actually has a lot of humanity in it as
well. There are many moments throughout that give real insight into the characters, and ourselves. If you
watch carefully, you will find that many scenes are bitter sweet. Within Brooks classic framework of his films,
this one has the most true drama. And it's full of cheeky humour. The print is in excellent condition and
red. $10.00
"ROSE OF WASHINGTON SQUARE" Alice Faye, Tyrone Power and 3rd in the cast is Al Jolson who makes
this film memorable. According to Alice Faye biography, The story parallels the life of singer Fanny Brice
who sued 20th Century Fox for $750,000. The studio benefited from the publicity generated by the lawsuit
- the film became the highest grossing musical of 1939... and deservedly so. $45.00
"THE SHUTTERED ROOM" Gig Young, Carol Lynley. Creepy! This is an unfairly unappreciated and
extremely effective Gothic horror flick from the late 60's. It is also one of the better attempts to bring literary
mastermind H.P. Lovecraft to the screen. The acting is magnificent! Carol Lynley and Gig Young are in top
form as the bewildered young couple whose arrival in the small, tranquil village seems to trigger off a series
of bizarre and ultimately deadly occurences. Colour pink. $20.00.
"A NEW LEAF" ~ or~ 'There's carbon on the valves'. Henry Graham (Walter Matthau) is a playboy
running out of funds who is willing to do anything to try to avoid doing something useful with his life...even
marrying Henrietta (Elaine May). This is a funny movie, with clever dialogue,
great sight gags and great performances. From his relationship with his
butler to his relationship with his car, Walter Matthau does his usual master-
ful job in creating a memorable character that you end up liking when it is all
said and done. No crudity, no vulgarity, just clever, well-executed humour
with a touch of sweetness. Colour brownish. $25.00.
"A CHUMP AT OXFORD" Laurel & Hardy. This is the original copyright
length of 42 minutes. Sound poor. $10.00.
"AN AFFAIR TO REMEMBER" Cary Grant, Deborah Kerr. There is a
reason why "An Affair to Remember" has remained a classic over the years.
It contains all the elements the audience is looking for in an entertaining
film. It has two marvelous stars, a timeless plot, and it transports the audi-
ence to a different world. Sure, the print is pink and still has yellows,
rather like watching it 'through rose coloured glasses'. $30.00.
