The KEYSTONE A 74 - 16 mm PROJECTOR
These machines were manufactured in the 1930s in the USA by
the Keystone Manufacturing Co, of Boston. This design was
popular at the time, as it offered certain economies in
manufacturing. The lamp house was located on the off-side of
the machine, with a mirror placed at 90 degrees immediately
behind the film gate to reflect the illumination onto the film
gate. This system was also popular with other manufacturers,
such as Kodak and Agfa.
The smallness of the mirror housing, made the use of a single
sprocket for both feed and take-up possible, offering some
economy in manufacture.
The supply and take-up reels were located at the rear of the
machine, and were of 400 ft capacity, normal for that era.
Other little niceties included a geared rewind built into the feed
spool arm, a rheostat speed control and a 300 watt lamp. Being
of American manufacturer, it was made for 110 volt operation, thus requiring a transformer for
use here.
In operation the machine is a good performer, easy to thread, stead picture and with good
brightness.
