A Big Surprise in New Zealand

As has been our habit for more than 20
years, Barb and I ventured across the
Tasman to attend the New Zealand Film
Buffs’ Association annual meeting on the
weekend 4-5-6 of November.
The Association holds two meetings
each year with the location rotating
between several cities.

To my surprise and delight, I was
awarded the John McDonald Memorial
Award for 2022.
This perpetual award commemorates the
work of the late John McDonald, a keen
film collector and enthusiast, and one of
the foundation members of the
Association

As next year marks the 100 anniversary of the introduction of
16mm in 1923. Kev Franzi’s story of the “sub-standard”
gauges will continue with a look at the early days of 16mm, the
equipment available and gauge’s evolution into a major
releasing medium for non-theatrical use.

Next year also marks 30 years of production of this little
magazine. A special issue is planned.
