Welcome to a new series of short articles that will explore the “Big Bangs” of Cinema
and tell the story of people who created new techniques and equipment that
revolutionized the industry.

BEGINNINGS.
From that moment when a brilliant idea becomes a reality in the form of a new invention
– and a whole new industry is created that will entertain, inform and inspire – that will
provide employment and enrich the lives of millions of people throughout the world –
Wow! For over a century it will provide the most standard product available in the
world – 35mm Sound Motion Pictures.

It created a new art form that would
capture, preserve and showcase the finest
talent in the world across a vast spectrum
of superb performances. It can take us
from dramatic journeys in space, to the
greatest depths of the ocean as we explore
the wreck of the Titanic – and then bring
it back to life with all the Magic and
drama that only Cinema can provide.

The Problem with the first motion picture
cameras and projectors was that the film path
went straight from the film supply magazine
into the gate and onto the intermittent
movement, a process that caused jitter on
the screen and often damaged the film. The
maximum reel length a cinematographe
could handle in projection mode was 100 feet
(30 metres) that’s 100 seconds screening
time per roll.
