On page 30 you will see mention of a series of documentaries available from Flicker
Alley called “Facets of Film”. There are four documentaries in the series and those on
early sound and early color in the movies are very good. The films are available for
download from either Flicker Alley direct, or via Vimeo. Enough of the promotional
stuff!

A good friend of mine generously bought me a copy, as she knew I would be interested
in them. The problem here is that despite paying for the series, and the website saying
“You Own This!” When I log on, it cant be downloaded to the computer, and therefore
making it into a DVD for playing on a regular TV is impossible. It can only be watched
by logging into your Vimeo account and watching it on line.

No doubt, all of this is spelt out in the Terms and Conditions when you sign up to the
site, which of course no one bothers to read. But nevertheless, it is not a very
satisfactory system from the buyer’s perspective. When contacted, the company sited
“piracy” as the reason for doing things their way.

So, I own video which I can only use by accessing someone’s web site and watching it
there. As a dedicated ‘film person’, buying a video on line was new to me, maybe I was
somewhat naive about it and this has been the normal approach for years. Your
