This meant that a ton of gear had to be
transported to Brisbane including two
16mm Projectors; the big Slide
Projector; the complete 1911 35mm
Powers Cinema Projector; a 10 ft
Screen; three large display banners; and
of course the Time Machines - several
rare vintage Cameras etc etc. The entire
film program came from my collection,
including "Poul Poulsen Master
Photographer” Brisbane and its
Environs (1925); "The Queensland
Centenary Story (1959)"; and
Brisbane's first films shot by Fred Wills
in 1899, etc |
The organisers were expecting perhaps
200 people - if we were lucky! "Oh yes,
and Queensland's new Governor will be
coming too" This statement racked up
the stress factor a couple more notches.
The Lumière Cinématographe
Two good radio interviews (by phone)
and a leaflet drop ensured that the show was booked out by Wednesday 20th - 250 seats
sold, wow!
On the evening it WAS standing room only, and we turned away at least another 250
people
The audience response? TREMENDOUS - we blew them away with a presentation of
history, unbelievable. I spent half an hour signing programs at the end of the show.
Finally, the organisers asked would I be prepared to do the show again in a month's time
- at a larger venue.
I will have to think hard about that one and the fee!
The Aftermath:
For me this event was the catalyst for numerous presentations at Brisbane City Council
venues, the Queensland Museum, the State Library and at the BCC’s City Hall Gallery
in the spectacular “Admit One” Exhibition. Proving without doubt the impact of
dynamic “History Alive” presentations. “History – Boooorrring!!!”— No Way!!!
