       Significant Anniversaries

                                                 th
The last edition of Reel Deals documented the 90 anniversary of the 9.5mm film
                                     th
gauge. This edition features the 90 anniversary of Kodak·s 16mm system.

These two film gauges represent a mile stone in the evolution of home movies and
amateur film making in general. Whilst the potential of both film sizes was
enormous, it took Pathé an additional 11 years before they produced a projector
worthy of the name. In 1933, they marketed their 200B projector, finally a machine
that could produce a well lit, steady image and with sprocket drive. Until this time,
none of their projectors had sprocket feed and because of 3DWKp·s notched title
system, high powered lighting was not possible.

On the other side of the Atlantic, Kodak entered the market with well designed and
made equipment which was capable of results which far exceeded those of 9.5.

Talking of Anniversaries – the next edition of Reel Deals will mark 20 years of
publication. A special edition is planned. If you would like to contribute in any way,
an article, a letter, etc. your contribution would be most welcome.
