The machine is fairly basic and was certainly not intended for more that home
use.
An open chain drive connects the feed to the take-up sprocket, which is direct
driven by the drive handle. One rotation of the handle advances the film five
frames. A gear on the off-side of the projector drives the beater intermittent and
the shutter. The shutter has only one blade, which rotates at one revolution per
frame. The lamp is a 100 watt Edison Screw domestic bulb fed direct from the
mains. There is no focal length or aperture marked on the lens, it simply says
Ernemann-Werke A-G Dresden.
The lamphouse is designed to slide across from the position behind the film
towards the operator. It has incorporates a holder for glass slides and there is
provision for another lens to be fitted for screening slides.
In operation, the projector does produce a reasonable picture - ignoring the
flicker produced by the one revolution per frame shutter - the quality of the
German made lens being far superior to those used in similar home-use
projectors of the era.
