Hi Mike,
Who said film is dead?
I have been engaged to do a se-
ries of 16 mm film screenings at
the Treasury Theatre, in East
Melbourne, which used to be
known as the “State Film Centre
Theatrette” in early March.
Yep, they have all the modern stuff for projection, but they want 16 mm –
“you gotta love 'em”
Known as the MELBOURNE WOMEN IN FILM FESTIVAL it will run over 2 days
and will include Q & A sessions.
Amongst the very interesting items to be screened will be the 1929 Austral-
ian silent drama THE CHEATERS, which will have live accompaniment by
seven musicians.
Amongst the short subjects to be shown
are items from the early to mid 1970s by
Patricia Edgar, Joni Thornley, Gillian
Armstrong and many more.
I’m polishing up the Eiki's for good per-
formances.
Cheers,
Alan Vogt.
Ed note: The Cheaters was made by the three McDonagh sisters Paulette, Phyllis and Isabella.
Paulette produced and directed the film, while Isabella was the lead actor under the name of
Marie Lorraine. The surviving print of the film was discovered here in Geelong, amongst a
collection of silent films held by the Palais Theatre.
