                                                            IJEC. 19.";2
1 9 53 -CORONATION YEAR-a year already being described by the
I journalists as the dawning of a new Elizabethan era and as the
birth of a new Britain. To what extent these prophecies will be
fulfilled ·is not within the realms of this journal to forecast, but that this landmark
in British history heralds a Time for Greatness is without doubt. The historian,
biographer, poet and author-all will contribute full and accurate knowledge of
what is being done and thought all the world over, but it is the indisputable right
of the movie maker to supply the only permanent and unbiased record which
can be handed down to posterity. It should not be assumed, however, that the
responsibility for this tremendous task rests entirely upon the shoulders of the
professional film producer. The amateur too, has his part, and it is a most
important part, to play in recording the events and history of this great period.
The value of this contribution should not be minimised, for unlike the professional
man, the amateur is, in many respects, free to film whatsoever he chooses un-
hampered by the restrictions so often imposed on the producers from Wardour
Street. Every cine enthusiast has within his grasp the means of recording
history in the making-records which with the .passage of time will prove a source
of constant enjoyment to the maker and a fountain of knowledge and interest -
to the family and friends. With this knowle~ge in mind, it is of importance that
plans be prepared now for the coming year. Already this magazine has outlined
the course which should be adopted in tackling a film of such magnitude, but it
would not be amiss to quote a few lines, which though not primarily intended for
use in cinematography are none the less very applicable.
TAKE TIME TO LOOK-IT IS THE PRICE OF SUCCESS.
TAKE TIME TO THINK-IT IS THE SOURCE OF POWER.
TAKE TIME TO READ-IT IS THE SOURCE OF WISDOM.
