Prior to the local manufacture of the Pyrox Victor here, complete units came in from the USA.
After the war, mechanisms came in from England with the amplifiers as per circuit, made here.
The valve complement in the USA made amplifiers was 6J7, 6N7, with 6L6 in push-pull output.
The valve line up in the Australian made amplifiers was 6SJ7, 6SN7, with a pair of 6V6GT
pentodes in a push-pull output configuration.
The distinctive color cabinets are the give-away as to which country the unit was made in.
Those made in the USA had a black cabinet, those from the UK came in a brown cabinet, whilst
the locally produced version, the Pyrox Victor, had a very smart red cabinet.
From the late 1950's, Pyrex imported and distributed the Victor Kalart, some were the
complete U.S. versions, and others utilized the imported mechanism and were fitted with the
same Australian made amplifier, now with the 6SJ7 replaced by a 12AX7
The Pyrox company also made professional 35mm equipment (see ad next page), but has long
since ceased production in that area. The Pyrox name is now no more than a label on gas
heaters. The company was re-absorbed into Robert Bosch from where it emerged in the early
1920's
