COVER PICTURE - The Bell & Howell Filmo model 57.
The Bell & Howell company is well known to film enthusiasts for their range of 16 mm
sound projectors. Less well known is that they also produced a series of well designed
silent 16 mm projectors during the 1930s.
There were various models available, all of the same basic style. The Model 57
boasted forward and reverse running, built-in manual film rewinder, a mains input
meter, a 750 watt lamp and 400 feet film capacity.
In common with the B&H sound machines of the 1940s and 1950s, the condenser
lenses and the reflector were easily removable for cleaning
Unfortunately, for Australian buyers a 240 to 110 volt step down transformer, was
required for this American made machine, which added considerably to the overall
cost.
The speed control is located on the
rear of the motor housing ►
The large mains input meter is located on
top of the machine, next to the lamphouse
