Also shooting at Ealing is "The Lady killers", a film that
seems all set to qualify as a further highly successful comedy
production from this studio. This time, in contrast, you have
the tale of five villainous crooks whose car fUlly-laid plans
are trumped with charm and dignity by a little old lady,
played with distinction by Katie Johnson-in her first starring
role, at the age of 75. And the crooks? Well, when we
have Alec Guiness as the Master Mind, with other characters
contributed by Cecil Parker, Herbert Lorn, Peter Sellers and
Danny Green, then we know we can expect something well
up in the entertainment rating.
I HAVE almost been scared stiff of setting foot inside the
Associated British studios at Elstree the last few weeks, for
would Big Brother and the Thought Police ever let me out
again? However, I just had to make a date with "1984",
George Orwell's grim piece, which is being filmed by Associated
British-Holiday Productions. It is scarcely a film in holiday
mood, as you well know, but for those who like pretty strong
medicine, here it is, and expertly dispensed.
But there will be a little sugar, for the love interest is
there-and to a greater level of pleasantness than in book and
TV. play. The two who bring love into a story of hate are
Edmond O'Brien and Jan Sterling, and also starring in this
unpretty picture are Michael Redgrave and David Kossoff.
