O·~TOBER ~OMPETITION

                        ~~Street Scenes~~

" What is this life if full of oare
We have no time to stand and stare".

These lines, so often used, have prompted the selection of "Street Scenes"
as the subject for this month's competition.
In the hustle and the bustle of our everyday life so much is taken for granted.
So often we fail to see, or to notice, the great wealth of photographic subject
matter which exists right on our very doorsteps. On the highways and byways,
in the roads and the streets, there abound ideal topics for your camera studies.
Every day, almost every hour, we rub shoulders with people from 1111 callings in
life, yet so very seldom do we allow ourselves time to reflect upon, or even
consider, these people and the work they do.
Perhaps in a very brief interval we will see the postman-someono we all
look forward to seeing-the coalman-a man very much in the news these days
-or the District Nurse-furiously pedalling down the road on, perhaps, some
very urgent mission of mercy. Out on the road, a highway of history will speed
on its way almost unnoticed. The barrow-boys and spivs with their barrows piled
high with wares, the horse and cart loaded with everyday needs of life, and the
lorries, many of which have been travelling all through the night, carrying many
      goods destined for overseas countries.
History is all about us. Stop then for a few moments, forget the trials and
tribulations of our hectic life and obtain your entry for the October competition.
There is no limit to the length of film which can be submitted; entries, however,
must be received at these Laboratories by the 21st November 1951.
