The following is an Email sent by Ian Davidson of the Federation of Victorian Film
Societies (FVFS) to member film societies re the closing of the Non-theatrical Lending
Collection (NTLC), which is part of the National Film and Sound Archive (NFSA)
It is reprinted here, as I feel it will be of interest to reel Deals readers.

Hi to all member film societies - secretaries and delegates, and friends.
In conversation with John Brady of the NFSA yesterday John Turner (ACOFS) learned that John
Brady's position as Manager of the NTLC is one of the 28 you may have read about during the
week which is to be axed.

He also added that the NTLC is to be closed down, possibly as early as the end of the year. No
decision has yet been announced, or told to the staff, as to what will happen to the films, DVDs
        etc.
It is strongly suggested that all film societies write to the NFSA regarding this impending closure,
especially those societies that make use of the NTLC.
You should write, stressing your reliance on the Collection, to Michael Loebenstein, C.E.O. of the
        NFSA. Email: Michael.Loebenstein@nfsa.gov.au.
You should stress not only your use of the films but the importance of the Collection to other
users especially for film educational purposes and also the importance to isolated communities
who have no other source of quality films. Also mention the effort and public money which has
been expended on building a world wide iconic library of important films.

If any society has access to a Federal or State politician who would be willing to ask a question in
the House they should be approached as soon as we have a time scale for the impending closure.
ACOFS first objective should be to obtain a stay of execution whilst lobbying can be organised
with a final result being to retain the NTLC in its present form.
