Archive Films to Screen Again?
Advance note: The Australian Film Institute has
expanded beyond its annual AACTA Awards and are
now presenting a range of events and screenings for
it’s members in Sydney and Melbourne.
As well as showing all new Australian films and the best
of the international, they are holding masterclass
seminars, short film showcases, and most exciting for
us - they are also working to present a range of historic
Australian films from the national archive.
First out of the block looks to be the 1927 silent classic
THE KID STAKES, which they are hoping to stage in
Sydney in September with a live musical
accompaniment. This event will commemorate the 60th
anniversary of the ‘rescue’ of the film by students of
Sydney University, in 1954.
A schedule of features from the 1970s-80s revival
period is also in the works.
