Have you heard of CATHS?

Cinema and Theatre Historical Society of Australia Inc.

The CATHS was formed in 1989, with the stated aims to:
                               • Record and promote interest in the history of cinemas
                                   and theatres across Australia.
                               • Promote interest in the preservation of our rich cinema
                                   and theatre heritage.
                               • Provide an environment for research of all aspects of
cinema and theatre, from building design and décor to
                                   the technical aspects of presentation.
                               • Maintain an extensive archival collection and library of
                                   text and images.

ARCHIVE: CATHS has an extensive archive of material on the history of the cinemas and theatres
of Australia and New Zealand. It is located at the PMI - Victorian History Library in Prahran,
Victoria. It is open for inspection or research each Wednesday and Thursday.

WEBSITE: CATHS has an extensive web site which includes a searchable database of Australian
and New Zealand cinemas and theatres - old and new. We believe this to be the only database
recording details of everything from the grandest regent to the local village hall - in fact any
venue which screened films on a professional basis.

ONLINE DATABASE: We invite you to take a look, search our cinema database for your local
theatre. Check our listings against your knowledge, We would love to hear from anyone with
updates, corrections or omissions. Your input will be added to the database. Log into the CATHS
website at www.caths.org.au and follow the cinema database link.
CINEMARECORD: CATHS is the publisher of
CinemaRecord, a 40 page quarterly magazine
documenting cinema and theatre history, D:\CATHS_FILES\SECRETARY_FILE\PUBLICITY\Page1 CR-98.pdf
personal stories of people involved in the

anything relating to cinema history - without the
movie star aspects! We recently celebrated 30
years of publication. The first 100 issues are
