''H IGHLIGHTS  OF  A  HOLIDAY';
              9.5 mm., Monochrome, 250 ft ., Silent.
By Mr. R. Clark, Sunshine (V.A.C.S.).
Very little "happy holiday" in this personal record of cam\ i;:lg. "High light''
appeared to be incidents far removed from carefree holidaying. Humour <>nd
imagination needed. Reasonably well filmed. Titles out of focus. Only by
planning and care ful editing can object be achieved.
          "THE BLUE MOUNTAINS"
16 mm., Colour, 160 ft., Silent.
              By Mr. 0. H. Jones, Bondi Junction, N.S.W. (V.A.C.S.).
Much too short and sketchy for subject of such expanse. Many unsteady
~hots and varying exposures. Merely a series of views and subjects.
           "BRIGHTON, VICTORIA"
               16 mm., Colour, 600 ft., Non-Synchronized Sound.
By Mr. E. J. Albury, Brighton, Vic.
Haphazard attempt to photograph a Melbourne suburb through the year.
Ccmpletely lacking in imaginative approach. Perpetual playing of monotonous
number, "Sussex by the Sea" added to dull nature of movie. Too much uneven
camera movement and variation ,in exposure. Editing was very poor-cars vanish,
           scenes jump, etc.
           "STEAM ENGINE"
8 mm., Monochrome, 135 ft., Silent.
               By Mr. P. Bruce, Kew (V.A.C.S.) .
Approach straightforward and precise. Interest in making a model engine
too personal and lacking general interest. Also irrelevant country ramble in middle
of procee:lir:gs confused the issue. Panning poor and overdone. Exposures not
consistent. A difficult subject demanding enormous work in editing. Parallax
           very poor.

place winners in this competition were
