ln addition to the winning of the Five Eest Films, the Victorian Amateur Cine
Society desires to thank the organisations and individuals for the generous prizes
won by the films shown opposite.
Australia's Five Best Amateur Films of 1951 have been cho:;en, and the prize-
winner~ in this year's competition have been listed above. ' 1
The panel of adjudicators for this competition were Mr. F. Keith Manzie
(Film Critic of the "Argus"), Mr. R. E. Lord (President of the Ormond Movie Club) .
Mr. V. F. Wagstaff (Manager of Cine Service Pty. Ltd.) , and Mr. Lynn Laurence
(Visual Education Director of a large chain store).
Each of the films were viewed by these adjudicators, and each dealt with only
one sect:on, as this is considered to be the better system, allowing the adjudicators
to concentrate upon a certain aspect of the film and make more detailed criticism
         and suggestions.
Eighteen entries were received-three of 8 mm., two of 9.5 mm., and. thirteen
of 16 mm . Five were in Monochrome and thirteen in Kodachrome, whilst nine
had some form of sound accompaniment provided. "Non-synchronized sound" means
that selected "mood music" on disc was either suggested or supplied by the entrant.
Films labelled "silent" had mood music supplied by the Society's sound technicians.
A noticeable increase was the number of films produced for a projection speed
of 24 f.p.s., with possibly a sound track in view later.
